Kerrs Reach Plan Approved

A proposal for the development of the Merry Estate at Kerrs Reach for athletics and hockey will be put to the Christchurch City Council.

This was decided at a meeting of the Canterbury Athletics Centre executive last evening on . the recommendation of a sub-commit-tee which had met the Canterbury Hockey Association. Mr A. W. Kennedy said that the sub-committee felt there was considerable value in the proposals of the hockey association. The recommendation was passed unanimously.

“Impractical Ruling" A ruling by the International Amateur Athletic Federation that all athletes must wear white running shoes at future international meetings was described as "impractical’’ by the chairman. Mr B. H. Kerr. Although it would not have much effect on athletics in Canterbury, the ruling was generally unenforceable, Mr Kerr said. Mr! Kerr said that although the association had been able to do this is the past without too much difficulty, the clubs were now big enough to do it themselves.
