Bonn Closes Embassy

(N.Z.P.A. -Reuter—Copyright) BONN, July 2.

' West Germany announced I yesterday that it was closing its embassy in Aden in retaliation against the South Yemen Republic's decision to recognise East Germany. The Government spokesman, Mr Conrad Ahlers, said the move amounted to a suspension of diplomatic relations.

Mr Ahlers said the Government regretted having to take this step but, after Bonn’s principle that recognition of East Berlin by non-Commu-nist States must be regarded as an unfriendly act, some action had to be taken. South Yemen is the fourth Arab nation to extend recognition to East Germany in recent weeks. The others were Iraq, Sudan and Syria. Cambodia also recognised East Germany recently.
