Accountancy Dept Head

Mr F. Devonport, reader in accountancy at the University of Canterbury since 1967, has been appointed professor and head of the accountancy department The post has been vacant since Professor A S. Carrington resigned at the end of last year. A full-time member of the university’s staff since 1962, Mr Devonport was first a lecturer, subsequently appointed senior lecturer and two years ago, reader in accountancy. He lectured in taxation parttime before 1962. For the last three years Mr Devonport. has conducted seminars at master’s level in advanced accounting theory, and for the last six years he has assisted in post-graduate courses sponsored by the New Zealand Society of Accountants, and the department of extension studies. He is a member of the Economic Society of Australia and New Zealand, the New Zealand Computer Society, and the New Zealand Society of Accountants. At present, he is membership chairman for New Zealand of the American Accounting Association.
