Tuna Boat Berths With Injured Men
(Ntw Zealand Preu AtiociaHon) WELLINGTON, June 18. A Japanese tuna-fishing boat reached Wellington today after a 450-mile dash to bring two injured fishermen to hospital.
The boat, Takatori Maru, was hit by the storm which sank two Chatham Island boats last week. Mr N. Sato, a visiting representative from the Japanese Tuna Fishing Association, said tonight that a big wave
had hit the ship, washing three men overboard and injuring another. The three were picked out of the water. One man, Mr Takasi Shingi, suffered injuries to his foot. He was taken to Wellington Hospital this morning but was treated and sent back to his ship. Mr Masamoto Yasoi was knocked over on the deck and suffered concussion and a suspected fractured leg and pelvis. He is in Wellington Hospital, but his condition is not available tonight. “This is the first storm that has hit the boats since a big one last month which capsized three boats and killed six men,” Mr Sato said.
