Couple Begin Work On Damaged Yacht

(New Zealand Press Association) WHANGAREI, June 16. After two nights in clean sheets and drybedding Mr and Mrs J. Crooks were ready to begin cleaning their yacht Tuarangi.

Thirty-seven days-of tossing and rolling has damaged < much equipment in the yacht < that Mr Crooks thinks it will J take a week to sort out what 1 can be salvaged, what needs to be thrown away, and how i best to preserve the things he i retains. He thinks that it will take him about a year to earn enough to refit the yacht. When that essential work 1 is over, Mrs Crooks will probably fly home to her parents at Invercargill. Then Mr Crooks will look for a job.

Yesterday the St Vincent de Paul Society provided clothes for the couple and many people made offers of help. Fenders were provided to save the hull from further damage, food came in, and today they even have a car to run round in. The Onerahi Yacht Club has offered help, as has Smiths Boatyard. Mr Keith Wright, a local barge owner, moved in yesterday to help the couple.
