Copper Wire Security
'The Government Audit Department was asking local bodies handling copper wire to take more care in handling both new and scrap wire, the Manager (Mr S. E. Slatter) told the Central Canterbury Electric Power Board yesterday. Concerned by the number of thefts of copper wire, the Electrical Supply Authorities’ Association had asked that the Second-Hand Dealers Act should be tightened to give more control over the disposal of non-ferrous metals, but this had been unsuccessful, said Mr Slatter. As it was preferable to store wire in a secure building rather than in a fenced enclosure. an effort was being made to find storage space in the board's buildings at Hornby.
