DISASTER INQUIRY

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copt/risht) SINGAPORE, June 10. The six Australian and American officers who form the board of inquiry into the fatal collision in the South China Sea between the Australian carrier Melbourne, and the American destroyer Frank E. Evans, spent 3i hours aboard the carrier at a Singapore dry dock today. Dressed in white overalls, they examined the damage suffered by the Melbourne above and below the waterline, but reporters were not allowed to speak to them or to board the Melbourne after they had completed their inspection. Later, the six officers flew back to the United States naval base at Subic Bay, near Manila, where the inquiry into the disaster opened yesterday.
