Resignation Of Nurses
(N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, June 10. The high number of nurse resignations because of examination failure and study difficulties was questioned by the chairman of the Waikato Hospital Board (Mrs C. E. Tulloch) at a board meeting yesterday. Of 50 resignations from the Waikato Hospital tabled before the board, 17 were the result of examination failure, study difficulties, inability to cope or non-suitability. Eight more gave no explanation or said the resignation was for “personal” reasons. The matron-in-chief (Miss A. D. McCutchan) said that 95 per cent examination failure was indicated when candidates were interviewed before training. Of the latest resignations, she said that nurse trainees were at a minimum level of acceptability at that time but because of “pressures” the girls were given the opportunity to train.
