BATTLE STAR SOLD

Future Racing In U S. The sale of Battle Star was completed yesterday, and the five-year-old will be flown to the United States later this month to do his future racing for Mr R. E. Blackman, of Chicago. The vendor, Mr J. Graham, of Christchurch, said yesterday that Battle Star would be flown from Auckland on June 12. The sale of Battle Star has come almost a year since his impressive win, by three lengths, in the Rangiora Winter Cup. Another of his victories at two miles last season, and it was also an easy one, was in the Central Otago club’s President’s Handicap. On that occasion he won by six lengths and a half. His third win at four years was over a mile and a quarter in the New Brighton Trotting Club’s Bowhill Stakes. Her Pal Out Of Action

Her Pal, which fractured a sesamoid bone in training at Riccarton yesterday, would not earn many marks in a poll to establish which is Riccarton’s luckiest racehore. In 1967 she was in such a bad way with an internal complaint that her life was in danger for a time. This year she came back after a long absence from racing with an immediate show of winning form and the first three starts on the campaign produced two wins and a second. The injury she suffered yesterday will almost certainly end her racing career, but it is to be hoped that Mrs L. R. C. Macfarlane's My Pal mare will have better fortune as a producer than her dam, Her Ex Her Ex, a daughter of Gabaflor and Lady Ex, produced dead twins to Red Marlin from her first mating. Three years later she foaled Her Pal, and a year later came Exciseman, but her 1965 foal, by Ribolight, died. Her Pal won at two years at Trentham when prepared by G. H. Murfltt, jun. She was trained for her racing this year by R. B. Taggart, who was riding her when she was injured yesterday.
