NEW AIR N.Z. JETS

Decision ‘Soon’ /N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 3. Air New Zealand planned to re-equip with wide-bodied aircraft in about four or five years to compete with simi-larly-equipped foreign airlines, the Minister of Transport (Mr Gordon) said in Parliament today. Mr G. F. Gair (Nat., North Shore) asked when the decision on re-equipment by Air New Zealand must be made to ensure that the company was not placed at a disadvantage on the increasingly competitive Pacific routes. Mr Gordon said several aircraft were being evaluated by Air New Zealand.

“To secure confirmed positions on the delivery line a final choice must be made within the near future, when it is expected that the aircraft manufacturers’ specifications will have stabilised,” he said.
