PRESS BAN
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) KUALA LUMPUR, May 15. The Malaysian Government has announced that it has ordered all newspapers to cease publication until further notice because of the situation.
A Government spokesman said the direction went out to newspapers from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
More than a dozen daily newspapers are affected.
The terse Government statement read: “The Government has directed that all newspapers shall suspend publication with immediate effect for a few days until further notice. All publishers and editors are requested to comply with this direction.” Because of the curfew newspapers have had difficulty in publishing. After the first night of rioting it was impossible to buy a paper, and the Englishlanguage “Straits Times” published only an early edition.
Today, the newspapers were published, but there were no deliveries. A few vendors were seen selling copies during the brief curfew relaxation period.
