REUNION IN WELLINGTON
Queen Margaret College Four previous headmistresses, and former pupils from Britain, Australia and all parts of New Zealand, attended the jubilee celebrations of Queen Margaret College, Wellington, the sister college to Rangi-Ruru in Christchurch. The programme was held throughout last week, beginning with the senior school’s presentation of the play, “Daughters of Troy,” produced by Richard Campion. A memorial plaque to Daphne Vyner, a member of the staff for many years, was unveiled by Miss Irene Wilson, a former headmistress. A high tea was held for old girls, former and present staff, and senior pupils. A map on the wall in the entrance hall held names of those in other countries who were unable to attend. New Entrance Gates At the official ceremony and flag raising, the old girls presented new entrance gates with lights and the school crest They also gave a large sum towards the rebuilding programme. On Friday last, the college was opened for inspection. A cocktail partly and buffet in the evening was attended by 750 guests. After basketball matches on Saturday morning, the junior school presented a pageant, “Our Heritage.” For those not attending the jubilee ball, a function was arranged at the old school. The reunion ended with a service held in the Wellington Town Hall on Sunday afternoon.
