BOYS RESCUED

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 13. A fisherman today leapt Into Wellington Harbour, fully clothed and wearing waders, to snatch two small boys from the water. “It was a magnificent act,” an attendant from the nearby Freyberg Swimming Pool said this evening. But the identity of the rescuer is unknown. The incident occurred about 1.30 p.m. when Brian Smith, aged 10, and his five-year-old brother, Aaron, of Scarborough Terrace, were playing near the

breakwater in the Oriental Bay boat harbour. The younger boy slipped and fell into the water. Brian jumped in in an attempt to save his brother. Neither could swim. Attracted by cries for help, two fishermen who were painting their boat on a nearby slipway, dashed to the scene. One of them jumped into the water, grabbed both boys, and struggled back to the sea wall. The boys were taken to Wellington Hospital but neither was admitted.
