The Dean of St Paul’s Cathedral (the Very Rev. Martin Sullivan) will be welcomed to Christchurch next week on his first visit since leaving the city seven years ago. He was Dean of Christchurch from 1951 to 1962. More than 850 persons have accepted invitations to a reception organised by the Christchurch City Council and the Royal Overseas League, and more tickets will probably be available to the public from the council reception office and from the league. The reception, in the Civic Theatre next Wednesday evening, will be presided over by Mr J. H. Wakefield as the branch president, and speakers will include the Mayor (Mr A. R. Guthrey), and the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt Rev. W. A. Pyatt). Dean Sullivan is a member of the central council of the Royal Overseas League. Dean Sullivan will spend eight days in Christchurch as the guest of Bishop Pyatt He will arrive on Tuesday and will speak in the Cathedral on Thursday and Friday and preach there on Sunday morning before television cameras and again in the evening. Before leaving Christchurch on May 27 he will attend a Rotary club luncheon.
