NIGERIAN COMMAND
Field Chiefs Replaced

The Nigerian Army has announced changes in the commands of all three of its divisions engaged in the war with secessionist Biafra. An official statement confirms that Colonel Benjamin Adekunle, commander of the Third Marine Commando Division, will become director of training and planning at Supreme Headquarters, Lagos, and will be replaced in the field by Colonel Olusegun Obasanjo. The Second Army Division commander, LieutenantColonel Ibrahim Haruna, will be replaced by LieutenantColonel Gibson Jallo; and the First Division commander, Colonel Mohamed Shuwa. will be succeeded by Colonel I. D. Bissala, at present military secretary to Major-General Yakubu GoWon, the Head of State.
The key changes In the Federal Army’s command structure have been announced after top-secret discussions by the Supreme Military Council, which considered the implications of the loss last month of the important city of Owerri to the Biafrans by Colonel Adekunle’s troops.
