SYDNEY All markets steadied today, with gains matching falls. The falls in the mining were suffered by the more speculative issues. Silver Valley fell 25c to 160 c, while contributings lost a similar mount to 128 c. Speculators lost interest in Pacific Mining, which fell below the dollar to 98c. However, Mount Isa caught the eye and closed at 992 c. a gain of 42c. Oils traded quietly. B.H.P. dropped slightly to 1600 c, and C.S.R. lost further ground to 804 c. AU markets closed on a quiet note. Sales.—B.H. South, 410; Cleveland Tin. 88: Com. Min., 470; Cons. Gold, 940; Cons. Rutile, 180; C.R.A., 2060, and rts 700; Cudgen, 170; Emperor, 340; G.M. MELBOURNE Some of the selling pressure appeared to go out of the market although falls again outnumbered rises in the mining section. Turnovers were light. Selected gold shares were sought as a speculation on a rise in the gold reserve price. Peko-Wallsend was up 15c to 1175 c. Others in the mining and oil section to gain ground were C.R.A., up 30c to 2070 c; Western Mining, up 15c to 1060 c; and Mt Isa hit a peak for the year with a rise of 26c to 990 c. Among investments, B.H.P. lost 10c to 1600 c, and Slater Walker had a further fall, losing 10c to 485 c. Sales.—Ampol, 143; Ansett, 87: A.R.C., 116; Assoc. Pulp, 175: A.C.1., 250; A.K.
