CROP COSTS

Survey Not To Be Sought

A move by Cust-West Eyreton that the economics section of Lincoln College be asked to prepare and publish for Federated Farmers a survey on the cost of producing cereal crops was not favoured by the agriculture section Of North Canterbury Federated Farmers on Friday. Mr C. R. Bayley said he thought the request was unwise at present. Farmers knew whether a crop paid or not Referring to negotiations on wheat price, he said: “You get these facts and figures, and it’s information for the other side. When our representatives went to discuse the wheat price in Wellington last year, they had all the facts and figures they needed.”

Mr N. Q. Wright said that some of the items were available at Lincoln College now. He suggested that Federated Farmers ask the college to make available its current figures on costs. When Mr R. P. Rivers, who moved the remit, was asked who would pay for the survey, Mr Rivers said, “Federated Farmers.” The remit was lost.
