Australian Will Judge Major Poultry Shows
An Australian judge, Mr L. Dowdle, from Namboura, Brisbane, will judge at two major poultry shows in Canterbury during May and June.
Mr Dowdle will judge poultry other than game at the Christchurch Poultry, Pigeon and Cage Bird Club’s show on May 22, 23 and 24 and he will judge game birds, game bantams and fancy bantams at the North Canterbury Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Club’s show at Rangiora on June 6 and 7.
The arrangements for Mr Dowdle to judge at the two shows have been made by Mr J. C. Cradock, of Ohoka. About three years ago Mr Cradock imported eggs from Mr Dowdle, and the two men have continued to correspond since.
Mr Dowdle will begin a New Zealand tour at Auckland on May 15 and will break his travels to judge at the two shows. He will leave from ,Harewood to return to Australia the day after the Rangiora Show. Mr Dowdle will be the guest of Mr Cradock during his stay for the two shows. A breeder of Australorps, Barred Rocks, and game poultry, Mr Dowdle has an excellent show record in Australia, where he has exhibited and judged all over the country. Several New Zealand and South Island championships will be held in conjunction with the North Canterbury club’s show at Rangiora. Entries will close on May 24.
Special prizes have been contributed by business firms in Rangiora and surrounding districts. Rangiora will be the venue also for a two-day conference of delegates to the South Island Poultry, Pigeon and Cage Bird Association next February.
