Touring Display On N.Z.

Some of the special achievements of New Zealand will be displayed in Australia, the United States, Britain and Europe in an exhibition produced by Qantas Airways and New Zealand publicity authorities.

Entitled “The Ingenious New Zealanders,” the exhibition will be opened in Wellington on May 20 by the Minister of Transport (Mr Gordon) and will ■be shown in New Zealand before going overseas.

It will be shown at the Robert Maedougall Art Gallery in Christchurch from July 14 to 23. The Qantas manager for New Zealand (Mr D. J. Hilliger) said the idea of the exhibition was suggested by Qantas late last year as a means of illustrating the skills and techniques which had been developed in New Zealand, some of them to the

point where New Zealand led the world.

A writer and photographer of the airline toured New Zealand under the auspices of the Government Tourist and Publicity. Department, and from this research the exhibition was Shaped. Among the country’s achievements which will be included in the exhibition are

heart surgery, radio-active carbon dating techniques, the intensive scientific development of primary industry and secondary processes, research and tertiary education in these fields, evolution and design of agricultural aircraft, pioneering of industrial and manufacturing processes and the promotion of the country’s tourist attractions.

The board of Qantas will accompany the chairman (Sir Roland Wilson) to the opening of the exhibition in Wellington and will hold its monthly board meeting in Wellington the same day. This will be the first time the board has met outside Austra. Ila, and the venue and date have been chosen to mark the opening of the exhibition.

After it has been shown in New Zealand, the exhibition will be taken to Australian capital cities and will then go to selected cities in North America, Britain and the Continent. It will be on tour for about 18 months.
