Attitude To Games
A suggestion that games in South Africa next year should be called the “South AfricanNew Zealand All White Games” has been made by the secretary of the Citizens’ Association for Racial Equality (Mr T. O. Newnham). “Even if they were socalled we could hardly provoke the hon-white athletic world more than we have this year,” said Mr Newnham He said that 200 medallists from the Mexico Olympics were invited to the South African all-white mini-Olym-pics and almost to-a man they declined.
“Now the manager of the New Zealand team has reported to the New Zealand Amateur Athletics Assortti'on that there were 10 New Zealand, seven British, two Austrian and one Dutch athlete present and they were a ‘happy little group.’ “C.A.R.E. has received an assurance from the British Amateur Athletics Board that the British athletes were definitely not a British team —this leaves a happy little group of 10 New Zealanders two Austrians and a Dutchman who showed to the rest of the world their support of the concept of the all-white games,” said ,Mr Newnham.
