Call-up Proposal
The United States Defence Secretary (Mr Melvin Laird) said yesterday that the Administration would submit to Congress within 10 days a selective call-up plan “based on random selection.” Under the proposal, a youth would know through a random selection process soon after his nineteenth birthday whether or not he would be drafted. The plan also would give those facing service an option of serving before or after college.—Wausau (Wisconsin), May 11.
