Luminous Street Signs
Sir, —When spending . a short time in Blenheim recently, I was particularly struck by the fact that all street names were lettered in luminous paint This enabled a stranger like myself to drive along at 30 miles an hour and pick up street names without difficulty. In Christchurch I have frequently had to stop the car and check a street name with a torch. The only luminous sign I have noticed is on Ham Road, and the passing motorist can easily pick the street Possibly the city could emulate the ex- . ample of Blenheim.—Yours, , etc., FREDERICK A BULL. May 4, 1969. 1 [The City Engineer (Mr P. ’ G. Scoular) replies: “Over re- ' cent years the City Council ■ has carried out a programme 1 of street name replacement 1 which is now completed. ’ When this programme was 1 initiated investigations were ’ made into the various street 1 signs offering, but no suitable ; luminous sign was avail--1 able.”]
