PARLIAMENTARIAN AND TRIBESMAN.—Two photographs of Mr Brere Awol, a member of the New Guinea House of Assembly, who is visiting Sydney to attend a 10-week Pacific Administration course. A smear of paint and some feathers made him appear as primitive as any of his tribal ancestors when, a few days ago, he put business aside to dance in ceremonial costume at the Independent Theatre. He normally dresses in suits when at home in his remote West Sepik village. Mr Awol was created a Member of the Order of the British Empire this year.
