The activities of the Department include palaeomagnetism, seismology, geochronology, experimental and structural geology and some branches of petrology and geochemistry. Applications in these fields will be considered and several positions will be avail--1 able, including the following: (1) ELECTRON PROBE MICROANALYSER LABORATORY A staff member is required to be responsible for the running of this laboratory and to make use of the instrument as a major research tool. Adequate technical support is available for maintenance and operation of the instrument. A background in mineralogy and petrology would be best suited for collaboration with other workers in the Department; however, the Department has an exten- • sive meteorite collection and specialisation in this field or in ore mineralogy and geochemistry is possible. ; (2) PALAEOMAGNETISM (Research Fellowship only) Applicants should preferably ! have an adequate background ; in field geology.
