Long Way The Quickest
The quickest way to fly between two points is not necessarily in a straight line. This was shown on Thursday by a New Zealand representative of an Australian airline Who Was one of the few to man- ; age to fly from Christchurch i to Wellington. He went by • way of Sydney. . Mr N. Ryan, who travels on airline concessions subject to loading, that is, he can get a • seat on an aeroplane if one ; is available, was in Christchurch on Thursday and had ito be in Wellington yester- > The National Airways CorI poration told him that because of school holidays and ’ interrupted schedules he i would not be able to get a : flight before Tuesday. He ■ then arranged for a car to take him to Plcton to catch the Cook Strait ferry, but Wellington Harbour was
closed to shipping shortly afterwards. So Mr Ryan caught a Qantas flight from Christchurch at 5.30 p.m. and arrived in Sydney at 6,30 p.m., Australian time. He had to wait at Sydney until the Air New Zealand flight to Wellington at 1 a.m-. Australian time, and arrived an kt 7 a.m. yetMrßyan said a similar trip had been made before.
