School Trips

Sir,—Why have the Standard 6 children of Hoon Hay Intermediate School been told that they cannot go on a day trip to Wellington because they go to a new school? This, I think, is a very poor and selfish attitude on the part of the organisers of these trips. These children can get the chance only once in their school days and it must be very disappointing for them. It does not cost the organisers anything. Hoping something can still be done for these keen children. —Yours, etc., FAIR PLAY.

May 2, 1969. [Mr W. P. Spencer, secretary-manager of the Canterbury Education Board, replies: “Neither the head teacher and staff of the Manning Intermediate School nor I have any knowledge of any class being refused permission for an educational visit to Wellington. These visits are of course only undertaken as part of a planned class educational programme and are not organised merely to give children the opportunity of a trip away from home.’’]
