Bid To Save Tower
The Italian Parliament's Public Works Committee has set aside 3200 million lire (about $4.5m) for work to prevent the Leaning Tower of Pisa from toppling over. Up to 300 million lire (about $428,000) of the sum will be used as prizes in a planned I international competition for the best way to save the tower.—Rome, May 8.
