CURRENCY FEARS
Close Watch ByN.Z. (NJ!. Prese Association) WELLINGTON, May 7. New Zealand was watching the position of all the major currencies very carefully from day to day, the Minister of Finance (Mr Muldoon) said today when asked to comment on a “Wail Street Journal” report that some financial sources in Washington feared Britain might have to devalue the pound within Mr Muldoon said there was bound to be a lot of international comment on the situation, but the effect on New Zealand of any particular move could not be decided until the whole pattern of any such series of moves emerged. “Fortunately at this time, New Zealand is in a much better position to meet such a situation than we were in November, 1967, when we devalued after the last British devaluation,” he said.
