JOB IN HONG KONG
Miss P. M. Robinson, retiring headmistress of Christchurch Girls’ High School, will leave Christchurch in July. She has accepted a teaching post at a co - educational school in Hong Kong.
A desire to return to teaching, and “to see a little of the world" motivated her to seek a position overseas. She will stay in Sydney for a while, and hopes to visit Singapore and Djakarta before the start of the school term in Hong Kong in September. The school, which is run with Government sponsorship by the United Church of Christ in China, was begun in 1987. The official opening of
its new premises, built in a depressed area of Hong Kong, took place last month.
Miss Robinson will be teaching English, and possibly some history. Her pupils will be third formers, but she expects them to be several years older than their counterparts here. A farewell function for Miss Robinson was held by the school’s Parent-Teacher Association last evening. Tributes to Miss Robinson were paid by the chairman of the board (Professor R. T. Sussex); Miss S. Balkinde, representing post-primary school inspectors; and Miss M. W. Jones, who spoke on behalf of the staff. A camera and cheque from the P.TA. was presented to Miss Robinson by the president (Mrs J. Yagodzenski.)
