Research Grant For Society
The Society for Research on Women in New Zealand hopes to publish the results of its sociological survey on women early next year, reports the Press Association. Five thousand women aged between 16 and 60, in the four main centres, were asked about their education, home and family commitments, and retraining for jobs. AU the information now had to be correlated and cross-tabulated, said the national secretary, Mrs A. Ward, in Wellington. This work wiU be assisted by a grant of $lOOO from the National Advisory Council on the Employment of Women, the acting president of the Christchurclj branch (Mrs Anne Hargreaves) said
at the annual meeting recently. Cabinet had approved the grant which would go towards the salary of a research officer to collate the survey results. A member, Miss Angela Sears, formerly of the Department of Statistics in Wellington, had been appointed to the position. She will have two clerical assistants, and an office will be made available for her use. The final results of the survey were eagerly awaited by the National Advisory Council on the Employment of Women, a council set up by the Government to investigate the situation of employment for women, said Mrs Hargreaves.
The society hoped to raise an additional $3OOO from a nation-wide raffle to meet survey costs.
