RAIN IN NORTH
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 7. Rain and cold temperatures occurred throughout the country today. Strong winds and rain lashed most of Wellington and at one stage caused a 28minute power cut at Johnsonville. Half an inch of rain fell at Wellington in the six hours to noon. The winds and rain are expected to continue tomorrow but to lose force gradually. Gusts of up to 72 m.p.h. were recorded at Kelburn and in Cook Strait. But the wind did little damage, apart from inconveniencing passengers in aircraft and the interisland ferries. About 1000 people in Johnsonville were affected by a power cut between 10.28 a.m. and 10.56 a.m., caused by the wind loosening the lever of an air brake switch which hit power lines.
