Price Of Flowers

Sir,—Mr Purdy’s reply to “Grower” is the usual answer to these queries. All growers are well aware that from February until April chrysanthemum prices have been consistently low. The public are always complaining about the high prices of flowers from the florist Does it not occur to them, when flowers are plentiful and cheap, to work on the quick turnover principle? Less mark up, sell more. This would help redeem their image and.assist the grower. The flower producer, too, has to face ever-rising costs—rates, wages, sprays, manures, to name but a few, added to this, storm damage and disease. But unlike, the florist he is not able to hand the cost on. As a grower of long experience I find there are many flowers grown today which bring no more, in some cases less, than they did 15 years ago.—Yours, etc., FAIR PRICE. April 28, 1969.
