SMALL-ARMS EXPERT
Army Service
Ends
An officer who changed the| concept of infantry rifle shooting in the New Zealand Army retired recently after 28 years service. He is Captain J. S. Wooster, of the Royal New Zealand Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Captain Wooster, who won the Queen’s Medal for shooting four times, is now the regional civil defence training officer. He replaced Mr J! Forror, now the Christchurch City Council’s civil defence officer.
A small-arms expert, Captain Wooster pioneered the Army’s new shooting techniques, which have been named after him. He is a vicepresident of the Canterbury Rifle Association and has taken part in many riflesafety demonstrations as well as advising and helping young shooters.
Captain Wooster said yesterday that he proposed to maintain his interest' In shooting and in the development of shooting and safety techniques. Several overseas countries had become interested in his methods and he had been asked when he intended to write a book on the subject. This was something he was now looking into, he said. |
