CATTLE FOR AUSTRALIA
Purchases Of Stud Stock More purchases of New Zealand Aberdeen Angus stud cattle have recently been made by Australian breeders. A rising-two-year-old bull has been bought from the Dannevirke studmaster, Mr W. Philip, by Mr A. Grieve, of Avenue Range, South Australia, for $3OOO. The bull was the first-prize ealf at the Dannevirke summer show last year. Mr Grieve also bought from Donald Grant and Com-, pany, of Mangatoro, a rising" three-year-old heifer. Acting for Sir Ewen Waterman, who is chairman of the Australian Wool Industry Conference and owns the Blackwood Park Stud at Strathalbyn, South Australia, Mr Grieve also chose two young Aberdeen Angus cows from the Totaranui Stud at Pahiatua and from the Tautane Stud at Waipukurau. The purchases were made through the central stud stock department of Dalgety and New Zealand Loan, Ltd, which said that the animals were all closely related to the best imported and home-bred sires in New Zealand today. It was obvious that Australian breeders were anxious to. secure the blood of the best imported and New Zealandbred sires.
