New Brighton Dressing Sheds

Sir,—Perhaps the Mayor br Cr Skellemp could spare the time to inspect the appalling condition of “sad neglect” in the changing shed at Central New Brighton. These disgusting conditions have existed right through the recent hot. dry summer and one can well imagine the -haos: hundreds of bathers changing from dry; clothes, which have to remain} on wet floors, all seats and, hooks having disappeared after a visit from vandals! about a year ago. This ter-! rible state of neglect must! be very apparent, yet noth-! ing is done about it. Why? An overseas visitor was overheard to remark, “One of the world’s finest beaches but awful conveniences."—Yours, etc., RATEPAYER. April 14, 1969. [The Director of Reserves! (Mr H. G. Gilpin) replies:! “Because of persistent acts: of vandalism in public con-i veniences generally, it is not always possible to maintain these facilities to a desirable

standard. The matters referred to by the correspondent have been noted and it is hoped to be able to effect improvements before the next bathing season.”]
