Prime Cattle At 396 head, the prime cattle yarding was almost 70 more than last week. With a large number of plain and unfinished steers, quality was not particularly good. The better quality steers and heifers met a good inquiry, particularly over the closing stages when values for steers were 8< to 95 up on last week. Other steers and heifers were much on a par. There was again a large number of cows, and they were hard selling with values back by 92 to 93 on last week.

The best heifers sold from 8130 to 8139. with medium from $9O to 8110, and others down to 869 The cow realised 879. Vealers Except, for the best quality cattle, vealers met a hard sale. Best quality butchers’ porkers were fully firm, but light and unfinished pigs were easier. Heavy porkers and light baconers were on a par. but the overfat and shorter pigs were much harder to sell. Heavy bacons were firm on late rates. With the larger entry, buyers were more selective, and the overfat and secondary quality pigs sold at a discount. There was a full entry of choppers, which included an overflow race. Here again good quality pigs sold well, and others were much easier.

Values were; Light porkers, 817.20 to 818.80. Medium porkers. 919,30 to 922.20. Heavy porkers, 823.80 to 826.50. Light baconers, 827.90 to 831.50. Store Pigs As in the fat pig section.! the store pig entry was a heavy' one. Here again, quality was mixed. Best quality wcaners sold well, but secondary sorts were easier. Slips and small stores met an erratic sale, but the best quality pigs were on a par with last week. More medium and large stores were offered, and these met reasonable competition, with values similar to those of last week. With the larger offering, some sections of the sale were easier, but overall, good quality pigs continued to sell well. In-pig sows sold from 821 to 829, while a sow with a litter of 10 realised 932. Values were: Small weaners. 94.20 to 96.50. Best weaners, 87.10 to $8.20. Slips, $8.90 to 810.20 Small and medium stores, 911 to 912.60. Large stores, to 914.70.
