Henry Cooper yesterday theratened not to defend his British heavy-weight title unless the British Boxing Board recognised his proposed world title bout against the American. Jimmy Ellis. “If the board changes its mind, I will defend the championship. But if it makes things awkward. I will give it up.” said Cooper, on his return from a holiday in Spain. “Why does the board refuse to recognise a man who is recognised by 80 per cent of the world?" The board decided last week that Cooper's fight against Ellis could not he recognised for the world title. Ellis has the recognition of the World Boxing Association as the title-holder.
