The representative Rugby league match between Canterbury and West Coast at the Show Grounds on May 10 will be the final trial to select the Southern Zone team and will also be a New Zealand trial. This was announced yesterday by the convener of the national selection panel (Mr D. L. Blanchard). The Southern Zone team will be named after the match by Messrs 'Blanchard, M. W. Church, and W. F. Mountford. Messrs Blanchard and

Church, both New Zealand selectors, will be joined by the third member of the panel (Mr D. A. Barchard) at the game, and the trio will travel to Huntly next morning to watch Auckland play North Island Colts.

The inter-zone game will be played at Auckland on May 17, after which the Kiwi team to play Australia in the first test on June 1 will be announced.

The first inter-provincial game of the season, between Wellington and Waikato at Wellington on Saturday will also be used as a guide to the selection of the zone teams. Mr Blanchard said.
