REMAND FOR YOUTH
Claimed To Be Detective
1 (N.Z. Press Association) [ DUNEDIN, April 28. [ An 18-year-oid youth who' had been impersonating a detective continued to claim to be a policeman even while being interviewed by the -police, Mr J. D. Murray, 5.M.,1 was told in the Magistrate's; Court today. Terrence Murray Hayward, press operator, pleaded guilty to assuming the name and i designation of a member of [the Police Force. He was convicted and remanded in custody for a week for probation reports and sentence. Sergeant M. J. Peterson -said that at 8.50 p.m. yesterday Hayward approached a group of youths at the Saint Clair Esplanade and claimed to be a detective constable investigating the breakage of windows in the vicinity. The hoys did not believe this and Hayward challenged them to check v. ith the C. 1.8. He took them to a nearbycoffee shop and identified himself to the proprietress as a detective. He then telephoned the C. 1.8. When interviewed by police. Hayward persisted for some time in his claim to be a detective.
Work Parties At Hotel <N Z. Press Association' INVERCARGILL. April 28. Kingston residents are so keen to see the Lake VVakatipu Hotel retain its liquor licence that they are carrying out improvement work themselves. Mr W. F. Simpson, of Invercargill, who appeared for the Lake Wakatipu Hotel licensee (Mr D. D. Kilkenny) at today's quarterly meeting of the Southland - Licensing Committee, said residents had
