LEADERS FALL FURTHER IN QUIET TRADING

There was little change in the behaviour of the New Zealand stock market when exchanges opened after Anzac week-end. Movements were in balance, but a marked downward trend among a few leaders that changed hands suggested that the month will end with no return to the last fortnight’s buoyant trading.

Beach Petroleum (down 15c) and New Zealand Refining (down sc) led the falls, while Crothall, Deanes and Marac recorded 5c rises. There was no movement in either Guthrie Bowron or 1.C.1.N.Z., which is bidding for Bowron, or in Phillipps and Impey which intends to raise its bid for the same company. The overseas list, in con-

trast. indicated buoyant trad-, ing. with the C.S.R. issues! , rising spectacularly again C.S.R. N.Z. sold 65c higher

■ at 950 c and C.S.R. Aust, rose > 70c to 960 c. Both have gained about 350 c since Christmas ■ B.H.P. rose slightly.
