Australia has endorsed the idea of an international authority over ocean-floor areas beyond the jurisdiction of coastal States.

But the Australian delegate (Mr A. H. Body) cautioned the United Nations Seabeds Committee yesterday against drafting a toodetailed list of governing principles at the outset., of world deliberations which, he said, were bound to continue for a long time to comeMr Body said the committee would be over-reaching itself if it tried at this point to cover every future contingency.
