Six tests
The decision of the Australian Board of Control to Introduce six tests for future full-scale cricket tours of its country has not met with a great deal of favour from the weary captain of the West Indian cricket team (G. S. Sobers). “It would be terribly tiring unless some of the country or state matches were cut out,” said Sobers at the completion of the test in Christchurch on Monday. “I cannot see why there cannot be one test in each of the five states. Perth crowds would be good enough to satisfy them.”
Sobers, who has only a month until he leads the West Indies in England, further commented:
“I am going to get as far away from cricket as I can. I have been playing nearly 15 months on end and I have had 13 tests in just over a year.”
