Maori Council Supported
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, March 18.
The Maori Council was perfectly qualified and entitled to make the statement it did in support of the All Blacks tour of South Africa, the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said yesterday. Last week the council received a letter from the South African consul, Mr P. H. Philip, saying that all members of any group of Rugby supporters arriving in South Africa for the 1970 tour would enjoy the same facilities. After this the council gave formal support for the tour.
Later, Mr M. Rata, M.P.; for Northern Maori, was re? ported to have said in Auckland that the council’s decision was made without knowledge of the views of the rank and file Maoris.
