DALVUI FIT FOR NAPIER CUP

“The Press” Special Service HASTINGS. Dalvui, the top-weight in the Napier Park Gold Cup at Hastings on Saturday, worked impressively with his race-day rival, Practice, over six furlongs yesterday. There were showers during the morning but the tracks were fast.

The trestles on the course proper were the regulation 39 feet out from the running rail, and times on this track were very fast.

The weather is unsettled but it is not likely there will be much more than occasional showers during the week. The district is overdue for fine weather.

On the plough Dalvui (Grantham) and Practice (Withington) were doing slightly better than Chill (Lawson) at the end of six furlongs in lmin 17sec, the last three in 39scc. Chill has freshened since her three wins at Wairoa and would appreciate her gallop yesterday. Dalvui is ready for a bold race in the cup and if the track remains reasonably firm he should be hard to beat. If it were to deteriorate Practice would be a better prospect. Togo (Marsh) and the improv-

ing Bourne Chief (Withington) ran five furlongs in lmin 4sec, the last three taking 39sec. Togo is at his peak for the McWilliams Wines Handicap.

Golden Tudor (Potts), an improver for the Greenmeadows Hack Handicap, ran three furlongs in 39sec then went another three in 39 3-ssec. This was good work. She has benefited from her race at Woodville.

On the course proper Royal Tudor (Marsh) was most impressive working alongside Tudor Lad (Withington). They took lmin 3 2-sscc for five furlongs. the last three in 39 2-ssec.

Royal Tudor has freshened and is particularly well for approaching autumn engagements. Black Witch (Withington) was clear of Rich John (Marsh) throughout an easy half mile in 51 2-ssec, the last three in 38 ,2-ssec. Black Witch is fit for her autumn racing. Astrella (Withington) was clear of Zizi (C. B. Harris) at the end of half a mile in 49 4-ssec, the last three in 37 3-ssec. This was a brilliant trial by Astrella, which could be a big threat to the best of her rivals in the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes.

Miss Countess (Thatcher) ran brilliantly over five furlongs in lmin 2 l-ssec, the last three in 38sec. She is in the Pania Handicap and could be hard to beat.

Black Suit (Jones), a promising youngster which will make his debut in the Juvenile Handicap. had the edge on Luana (Dodds), which be beat by a length and a quarter after running half a mile in 49 3-ssec, the last three in 37 l-ssec. Luana had a cold recently and missed work but she should come to hand quickly.

Manurere (Lawson) covered six furlongs alone in lmin 18 l-ssec, the last three in 42sec.

False Problem (E. Jones) ran five furlongs smartly in lmin 2 2-ssec, the last three taking 38 3-ssec.

False Problem was impressive and could make his presence felt in the Omahu High-weight.
