RACING Sprint Race Likely For Krazikid

Krazikid, a double acceptor, is likely to run against the sprinters in the Banks Peninsula Racing Club’s Kinloch Handicap on Saturday.

Krazikid’s connections have until tomorrow to decide the chestnut’s programme, but the presence of Middy and Count Down in the field for the Peninsula Handicap could help a decision to start in the sprint.

Krazikid’s Riccarton trainer, P. H. Jones, said yesterday that a strong frontrunner such as Count Down could make the Peninsula Handicap a fast-run race. He feels Krazikid would have had a stronger winning chance at a mile and a quarter if there was no fast pace early, allowing the My Pal gelding to capitalise on his sprinting powers in the last half of the race. Start Not Certain

The Kinloch Handicap field could be weakened if there

is no easing in the track this week.

Gay Doctor, a form runner from Washdyke, will not be a certain starter if the track is firm, according to his trainer, W. Turner. Several horses advanced their preparations for the Banks Peninsula meeting in five-furlong sprints from the starting gate on the outside of the course proper yesterday. Krazikid was one of the best trialists. Ridden by M. McCann he won one heat by a length from Royal Bid (F. H. Skelton). Time and Tide (Mein) was third in a gap of two lengths. Krazikid ran the final three furlongs in 39 4-ssec. Smart Run

Gingerbread (Miss L. MePhie) showed she is well forward for a fresh start at Motukarara by running five furlongs strongly to shade Tumble (Gullery) and Water Deer (Tucker) in another barrier trial. They ran the last three furlongs in 40sec. Some of the lesser lights were tried in earlier trials and winners included Warrington and Gold Fountain. Warrington, a newcomer

to C. McDonald's team, ran his last three furlongs in 40 3-ssec and did his work attractively. Gold Fountain recorded 41 l-ssec for the last three furlongs to beat Steve’s Hope, Bimerah and others. Three members of R. P. Register’s team—Sleeky Fox, Walaroo and Master Sheeny —figured in two of the fastest seven-furlong gallops on the plough. Sleeky Fox and Walaroo recorded Imin 30 2-5 sec. Master Sheeny was paired with Lady Velvet to run the distance ’in lmin 30 4-ssec.

Later Red Chips and Goudhurst ran the last seven furlongs of a mile in lmin 33 l-ssec, Red Chips doing his work well in the hands of his race rider, E. G. Low. Narcotic and Roman Legend recorded lmin 31 3-5 sec, quickening for the last three in 37 4-ssec.

The two-year-old, Domic (Tucker), was never near full stretch while running half a mile in 51 3-ssec. He has thrived since he ran second at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s summer meeting and holds a bright chance in a five-horse field for the Bradley Handicap at Motukarara. Cosmetic, rdden by A. H. Eastwood, sprinted six furlongs in lmin 18sec. She has speed, but her latest runs have been disappointing.

Smart Rim By Lady Syntax

••The Press” Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. A smart effort over five furlongs by Lady Syntax and a runaway victory for Tony Kaye over the Foxton visitor, Arria, were the highlights of training at Awapuni yesterday. Lady Syntax is preparing for the Pania Hack Handicap at Hastings on Saturday while the other two will race on the first day at Trentham next month. Lady Syntax failed on the second day at Wanganui after racing well there a week earlier. Yesterday she was quickly into her stride from the five furlongs and completed the journey in lmin 1 3-ssec, the last three in 36 3-ssec.

Jarnac wild contest the Omahu High-weight this week. He ran six furlongs in lmin 19 2-ssec, the last three with something in hand in 39 3-ssec.

On the course proper Tony Kaye and Arria started from the five furlongs. Tony Kaye soon raced away and won the gallop by 10 lengths. Tony Kaye ran his last half-mile in 50sec, the final three in 38sec. It was a fine effort as the pegs were well out.
