Jockey Injured In Road Fall
The Wanganui jockey M. J. O’Connor (shown above after a race fall at Riccarton last August) received a fractured thigh in a fall outside the Wanganui racecourse yesterday morning. He was thrown heavily on to the road when the saddle of his mount slipped. The injury is expected to keep O’Connor out of action for at least four months. A successful jockey, on the flat and over fences, O’Connor also prepares a small team at Wanganui. Roley, a Napier Gold Cup candidate this week, is in the O’Connor: stable.
