Calcutta Rally
Carrying hammer-and-sickle flags, more than one million people crowded on to the huge army parade ground in the centre of Calcutta yesterday to celebrate the victory of the Communist-dominated United Front Party in the West Bengal State General Election last week, and the routing of Mrs Indira Gandhi’s Congress Party. The party leader (Mr Sudhin Kumar) told those at the rally not be be satisfied with victory in Bengal, but to prepare to capture power in Delhi.—Calcutta, February 25.
