Royal Film Protest
(N Z.P.4.-Reuter— Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 25. A visit to the cinema by five members of the Royal Family has drawn a protest from one of them, Princess Margaret’s husband, Lord Snowdon. Last night Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret, Lord Snowdon, Princess Alexandra and Prince Michael saw “The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie,” starring the British husband-and-wife team, Robert Stephens and Maggie Smith. The film was chosen for this year’s Royal Film Show, but the panel that chooses the film for that event each year asked for a 10-second
cut especially for the Royal screening. In the missing 10-second scene, a group of schoolgirls look at the nude figure of a man and giggle. Towards the end of the film the Royal party did see a scene in which a teen-age pupil of a school is lying in the nude, being painted by the art master whose mistress she wants to be. The girl is seen from behind, rising and walking naked across the studio.
At the presentation to the Royal group of stars and other celebrities, Lord Snowdon told the film director, Ronald Neame, and Mr Richard Zanuck, vice-president of 20th Century Fox: “The cut makes out that we are all a bunch of children under 16.”
