Eight Hotels Entered In One Week

(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, February 24. The burglary at the Valley Lodge Hotel in Kaikorai Valley at the week-end brought to eight the number of Dunedin hotels entered in one week.

Cash taken from the eight hotels totals $4752, which is more than the total amount stolen from Dunedin hotels during last year—s2Boo in 18 burglaries. In the Valley Lodge burglary, a safe was forced and $3700 stolen. Last week seven hotels in the eity were broken into and a total of $1052 was stolen, as well as liquor and goods to the total value of about $3OO. So far this year 11 hotels

had been entered, and almost $4BOO taken, the head of the Dunedin C. 1.8. (Detective Chief Inspector W. E. Hollinshead) said today. “It is patently obvious that the publicans are paying no attention to warnings issued by the police," he said. “Since the warnings were issued, one large theft has been committed and a door of a hotel was found to be unlocked.

“The whole thing must be making the thieves chuckle."
