ENLARGED MARKET

(N..Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 24. A larger European economic association, reportedly proposed at the week-end by France, would be “disastrous” if New Zealand’s interests were not safeguarded, the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said today. He told reporters at a press conference that the position with the French proposition was similar to that of Britain entering the Common Market.

“I think it was timely that I should have had recent talks in London, Paris, Bonn and Rome,” he said. The Prime Minister said that during the talks, especially with President de Gaulle, he was not informed of any details of a new community in Europe and he did not expect such a proposal so soon after his visit to the area.
